Apple Pie Baked Beans

Sweet, delicious baked bean recipe that's perfect for summertime BBQs.

Ingredients

  • 2-28oz cans Bush's Baked Beans
  • 1-14oz can Apple Pie Filling
  • 1lb breakfast sausage 
  • 1/2 medium onion chopped
  • 1/2 red bell pepper chopped
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 16oz BBQ sauce (use the cheap stuff)
  • 1 Tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 Tablespoon W Sauce or Worcestershire Sauce
  • 2 Tablespoons Killer Hogs Hot BBQ Rub

Directions

  1. Prepare smoker for indirect cooking at 250-275°F
  2. Open and drain the cans of baked beans. Brown the sausage with the onions and bell pepper.
  3. Pour the beans into a large dutch oven cast iron pot.  Add the sausage mixture along with the can of apple pie filling.  Stir gently to combine.
  4. Add the bbq sauce, brown sugar mustard, W sauce, and hot rub and gently stir again to incorporate. 
  5. Place the dutch oven on the pit and smoke for 2 hours stirring occasionally.
  6. Serve warm with your favorite smoked meats.

I followed the recipe it was absolutely amazing me and my wife made it on a camping trip in my new cast iron pot it’s a keeper

I make these often, they are always a hit. Brown the sausage first I also add a large pinch of crushed hot peppers. I sub mustard powder for the mustard. Also I second the above note of choping the apples up a bit first i do it while they are in the can run a knife through about a dozen times

Outstanding! I chop up the apples so they “blend” better. Very easy to make and always a favorite.
